Enteric Omega-3 Softgel
Omega-3 fatty acids are mostly polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) characterized by the presence of a double bond, three atoms away from the terminal methyl group in their chemical structure.
The three types of unsaturated fatty acids involved in human physiology are alpha-linoleic acid (ALA), Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and Docusahexaenoic acid (DHA):
LAL can be found in plants, while DHA and EPA are found in alga and fish. Marine alga and phytoplankton are primary source of Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA and EPA accumulate in Fish that eat these algae.
Mammals, including human, are unable to synthesize the essential Omega-3 fatty acid ALA and can only obtain it through diet. However, they can convert ALA to form EPA and DHA. The most widely available dietary source of EPA and DHA is oily fish, such as salmon, herring, Mackerel, anchovies and sardines. Therefore, fish oil is often formulated as a popular dietary supplement and since it is a liquid, the optimum oral solid dosage form for this supplement is softgel.
The classic fish oil softgel supplements which are sold in the market have the fishy aftertaste which is unpleasant and annoying (foul-tasting burp).
Here in GelEntroCeutics, we have developed an Enteric fish oil softgel which will pass the stomach after being swallowed, without releasing its content in stomach and opens up when it reaches the intestine. Therefore, our Enteric fish oil softgels have the benefits of fish oil without all that fishy aftertaste.
